If you are transferring across the country, you probably have thought about what to do with your car. There are several options from you to choose. First and the one most consider is driving the car. However, if you are like most families you own more than one car, an this means that the family has to be split up during the long trip. This poses several problems, such as added gas expense, fewer relief drivers, and the simple wear and tear on all of the vehicles. You could ask a friend or other family member to accompany you, paying for their return trip and any other accommodations they would require. However, you still will have the added gas expense and the wear and tear on your car. Your second option is hiring an auto transport company to safely ship your car to your new home. Before making your final decision, calculate which would be the most economical for you in terms of time and money. To do this you have to add the cost of the road trip, including food, gas, lodging, time, and preparations needed to ensure that your car will make the journey safely. This would include possibly new tires, breaks checked, tune-up, and any other maintenance, plus the deprecation of value the added miles would cause to your car. Adding 2,000-3,000 miles to your car will deprecate the value of your car and if your are leasing then you have to consider your mile restrictions. Then add up the costs and compare them with quotes you've received from auto transport companies. After you have crunched the numbers, you may find that you simply cannot afford what it would take to drive your car cross-country. When considering an auto transport company, get several quotes from reputable car transporters and compare their rates. Ask questions and find out if there are any hidden costs in shipping your car. For your cost comparison make sure that you add in the cost to either rent or borrow a car while you are waiting for your car to be delivered. Your final option is to sale your car. Then purchase a new one once you arrive at your new destination. However, you still have to worry about selling the car, and then renting one until you can purchase a new vehicle.
